For reasons I've no idea about, they named it after one of the (1997?) F1 cars.. which wasn't all that successful, really.

These are quick and dirty photoshops of more preferrable colors (IMO).

    Also, AutoCar has a video:

Is it just me or does it look current and fresh for 2003?

Sorry, but this is really not a particularly inspiring car. Hopefully it goes like Stink and cures cancer.

Looks almost identical to the Locus Plethore. Generic design, I call it.
Buying a car and not driving it is like buying a meal and not eating it.

    Mclaren MP4-12C - a set on Flickr

hmm ... is it just me or does that wheel/dash look like it might be Logitech G29 sim steering wheel setup ?

WHy the "thing" about flappy paddles ?
Modern ones have nothing to do with the first versiosn which were on "auto" boxes.
THis is sitting on an SSG. So it has to be electronic ... or do you really want two clutch pedals and 2 gearsticks ?
If I've got complete control of the 'box and it shifts quicker than I could (!) then I'd want one so the car can be driven "closer" to the edge ( and keep a 70s Alpine to play full manual when I want )

    Nice final remark there!
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Yes, Leno is always the opportunist for expanding his wonderful collection with the 'first' of something.

BBC offers a preview video as well here:

    Indeed.

Is this a joke? Is this really the final design?

Zero imagination...looks cheaper than a Hyundai.

    Bleh.

I mean even the way Leno said the name was robotic....

Where's the evocative supercar aspect? I mean even the SLR has a cool (albeit ripped off) name....

Okay - so I was bored and made a color chart from the AutoCar wallpaper. Each one is clickable for hi-res.

By the way isn't this a bit heavy for a small carbon fibred sportscar? The figure quoted is the dry weight, kerb weight or what?

Will they? That'd be strange. And probably no one will choose it.

That last sentence just answers your own question.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.

Only the central tub is carbon. The body is more traditional alloy as they determined for the market segment they are targeting with this car that the weight savings didn't justify the additional cost.
