The best low-milage e24 M6 you could find will easily fit your budget, and the footwell will work for you. Newer options might be '98-'02 Audi S8 or '90-'94 964 Porsches, used prices for #1 examples are under $25K. A clean 964 can't be beat... great cars.

Only the full banana SS, with the stripes and the chequered roof will do though.

Well, you know those cars that everyone thinks are cool, even if they have no idea what it is? I just thought it would be fun to have one of those. I was looking at pictures of hot rods at the time. Not sure how practical something like the attached would be though.

Just a quick eBay search shows them at about $28,000 average for low mileage, and for one with 122,000 miles at $11,500. The second would be in range but I don't think I'd want a 22 year old BMW with that many miles.

964 eh? Can't say I'd thought about that year range. eBay search under way.

This thread is fun, and there are some good ideas in it, but I'll probably end up getting another stock/boring car, to be honest.

Why boring? Plenty of choices, take your time and pick something fun that's already depreciated. Try this instead of eBay:

site mash : porsche 964 : combined classified and auction listings

C5 Corvette. Even a Z06 if you can find a decent one in your price range. Goes like hell and fairly reliable. Driven 2 C5 Z06's and they are fun. Actually I flew one too. Interesting day that was.

I feel like you've been around long enough to have a general idea of my animosity towards the Corvette.

    I'd take a 63 or 64ish Corvette, that's it.

Go for a Porsche 944. Parts aren't that expensive, easy to work on, and lots of performance parts available too. I've been itching to get a "project" car and I think a 944 is gonna be the one to get. I've found a couple of decent ones with good mods for under $7500.

the S2's look damn good, pumped guards and everything. sort of like a piston powered euro equivalent to an FC RX-7, looks and balance are similar!

+1 to above suggestion... great examples are available, spend a little more for a garage queen. 928S4 are undervalued, too.
Still prefer the 964, though. Or maybe something more recent, low miles, bang-for-buck winnah
