you are actually pretty right there cyco... some of the VQ35DEs had massing oil consumption issues. there was never a solution found for it, so they just replaced a ton of engines. even the ones that aren't problematic with their consumption, still use quite a bit of oil. i think they have completely fixed it with the 35HR and the VQ37VHR.

Nissan have its share of problems with the premature brake wear on first gen G35 as well...the one my dad has gone through 2 sets of rotors already, it has less than 120k KM on it...

i agree on that one. babying it is no good. and i love the sound. and also the brakes on first gens did wear out quick. that was fixed. and oil consumption has been an issue too

Yeah, the rotors on the first gen G35's in America are and were rather lacking; it is the only car in the family that has needed new rotors, and as Racingmaniac's example, it has gone through two when the other cars in my house or most of neighbors garages have yet to get their first set replaced.

And, I am not sure I believe the "you run with V8's" thing, given a ~300 horsepower G35 has trouble against anything other than a similarly equipped sport sedan. An example being, a Camaro LS can about keep up (wonder what the SS can do, eh?).

And just as a personal view of Nissan/Infiniti sport-sedans (mainly the G35 series), I think you are putting a little too much into them. They are quick, yes, but so is an Acura TL. And this is in a car that gets around the same gas mileage as a C6 Corvette. As sedans they are great...but any emphasis on how sporty they are, to me, seems pretty misplaced (especially on the later 35 family) in terms of driver feel and composure/behaviour.

as far as the brakes, the Brembos were very good brakes, but the lesser brakes offered during those years were less than good. they ended up compromising from 06 on and put on their own brakes, uprated form the previous base brakes. they were better, but still not brilliant. on the 37 they have much larger, monoblock calipers that are supposedly a ton better than anything found on the 35.

and if G35Coupe has all of the mods he says he does, he is getting about 300 rwhp, not at the flywheel, which should allow him to keep up with a typical V8 powered pony car. a mustang GT or the ilk.

My bad, I missed that somehow when I read through the thread

That would definitely clear up a lot of it for me, heh.

Thank you. I just ran with a Ford Mustang GT 3 days ago. I was amazed at his inability to keep up. We went at it twice. I thought he was just slow until we met in third gear and went at it. I just zipped passed him like it was nothing. I concluded that his gearing was his biggest problem.

Last week, i went at it with an early model turbo charged Honda civic. He kept up with me up until the 4th gear--he was really fast once he spooled up. By the time I hit 5th gear, it was over, and i had not even gotten up to 5500 rpm yet---the gap was so wide, I thought he just slowed down---but he didn't. The amount of torque and horsepower my car makes these days in 5th gear and above 5,000 RPM is unbeleivable to me. In fact, I need new after market headers to help me handle the excess power because i feel the restriction and so much torque when i hit 5000 RPM. I don't want the excess power to crack my OEM headers. I feel the OEM headers can no longer handle the power the car has now.

you have to have paid attention to his ranting for months to gather that. not just this thread.

fwiw though. real men race at sanctioned events, and i used to regularly walk all over mustang GTs with my 163 hp mini at autocrosses. and now i can beat most stock cars.

Oh, well that explains why I didn't see it then, I guess.

If you're going to post about every single recall I suggest you stop visiting us and start visiting the NHTSA boards.

    I haven't seen any proof he owns a G35 or a Sentra.
