Well, nowadays it just means someone 'upmarket' really.. dunno how to describe it... like people from the West End of London
The origional meaning was POSH - Port Out, Starboard Home. POSH people were the people with a little bit more dough who paid extra to be on the side of the boat away from the Sun, in the shadow of the sails and the like. That was when the first England - America sealines started i think, but not too sure.
