if his driving style in pug gives him 35, the same driving style in BMW will not give him 61. BMW is very good at preparing the cars to score pretty good lab test values, but real life is something. Is he planning to not exceed 60 mph?

That's not entirely true either, is it?

My dads pug has the 2.0 si engine, which means it has the engine from the 206 GTI that’s why it only does 35mpg. Why does no one believe me that the BMW 120d does 61 mpg? Have a look for your self, see the combined mpg here is a link to the bmw site.

I had assumed the pug was a diesel too. And don't trust combined cycle figures. There is a website in Holland that keeps track on real fuel consumption (on the basis of fuel paid through lease contracts). For the 120d the factory figure is 4.7 liter per 100 km, in reality about 6.3 liter per 100 km was observed. (almost 35% more) I leave the imperial conversion to you...

6l/100km sounds about right. Which is impressive considering the performance.

Any way what ever the 120d does it will be a lot better than 35 mpg which my dad pug does. BMW make great diesel engines, they are efficient and also quite fast.

It would probably take some commitment to actually achieve 9,3l/100km in a 320d.
