    How? (SLR McLaren's engine)

    hi
does anybody know how the hell can mercedes produce 617 hp from a 5.5 liter s/c V8 ?(actually that engine is the SL55's modified engine)
and SL65 amg has a biturbo V12 6.0 and it produce 612 hp,nearly the slr's horsepower and its Displacement is pretty high + it has a V12 and 2 turbochargers,
    im really confused

    ( SL65 produce more torque tough-738 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm and SLR's : 575 lb-ft @ 3200-5000 rpm)

    is it for the supercharger?

Different tuning, the SLR is more of a perfomance oriented car than the SL65. The V12 most likely has a much lower compression ratio too, and running low boost from the turbos, although it makes an increadable amount of low end torque.

making power is not directly related to the number of cylinders or the displacment of the engine, you can have a 1.6 liter honda I4 pushing 650hp just as you can have a 3 liter 2jz I6 or a 1.3 liter rotary. it depends on how the engine is built, how much pressure the F/I is pushing, cams, redline, compressions, how the intake and exhaust is set up, etc.

The SLR has a supercharged engine. With a supercharger it's pretty easy (especially with todays engines) to make well over 100hp per liter.

Just to correct something, the SLR's engine only shares the displacement with the SL55... it's a different block, different heads, and even a differnt lysolm-type supercharger. I don't even think they share one part.

It doesn't really seem too amazing to me that they've acheived this amount of. With forced induction especially. Koenigsegg has gotten over 800hp from a S/C 4.7 litre block, and that's not even near what might be considered the limit.

i still like the 2JZ, stock block goes up to 970hp with some crazy souping up.

i wonder how much one can soup up the engine of the SLR

tuning. it should do the trick. By the way, talking about tunning, my beemer produces much less power than sposed to, and it really increased my 0-60 time. why? help plz.

How have you measured the power ?
How have you measured the time ?
... and ... what are you using as a baseline ???

Yep, displacement and number of cylinders doesn't dictate how much power an engine can make. Remember the F1 turbo era? 1.5 liter twin turbocharged V6's making anywhere from 1000-1500 hp.
