Actually we rarely received the bargain basement cars, about 1/3 of the Chevrolets, for instance, were LTZ trim, and the bulk were the midlevel LT's.

Have you been in any of the current GM cars?

I had a Cruze LTZ RS as a rental car while my car was in the body shop. That car was fantastic. No squeaks squeels, rode like a dream, steering was good, great bucket seats. The only qualm was that the rear leg room is worse than a civics! It was hardly base model, yes, but considering that was the highest equipped Cruze you can get, its price is very similar to a midlevel car from the european competition.

Yeah, the Cruze is a fantastic car. I didn't really spend any time out back, it felt like it might have been smallish, but the car was really well-built and that 1,4l turbo was a fun little motor to drive while returning great fuel economy. Not much turbo lag, and once you got the turbo up, it had great torque. I highly enjoyed it.

Here the Cruze is a bargain basement car. Not specially high quality or the most refined car in the world, but cheap prices and powerful engines.

Visca Catalunya!
For its class, I put it up with the big boys. Easily ahead of the Corolla, a bit ahead of the Civic, and probably on par with the Elantra. I'd put it up ahead of the Focus, too, if only because the Focus still comes with only a 5-speed stick here. If it has a fault, it's that it feels rather cramped, especially in the back, the Mazda3 probably has about as much room as the Cruze but feels larger.
Can't comment on its reliability though, if that ends up being at least average, I think the Cruze is worth considering.
