Pics from the Champ Car race in Las Vegas

I wasn't too sure how much I'd enjoy watching an oval, but this race was great.

Newman-Haas teammates Sebastien Bourdais and Bruno Junqueira ran wheel to wheel for the last 15 laps, with Bourdais taking the flag only 0.066 seconds in front of Bruno.

The battle between 'SeaBass' and Bruno was as exciting as just about any racing I've ever seen.

There was close racing the whole night, and unlike 'EARL', no crashes.

With six Champ Car wins this year, Bourdais is clearly one of the better young drivers in the world, and is rumored to be headed to Formula I, if not next year, in 2006.

While speaking with SeaBass on Friday in the pits, I predicted that he would be the F1 World Champion with five years.

He gave me a smile and said :

    " I hope it's sooner than that "

The facility was great, the people friendly, the girls pretty.

What more could a race fan ask for ?

The new Cannery hotel-casino out near the track was super, and several teams were staying there too. Saturday night after the race, I talked with Mi-Jack driver Justin Wilson in the bar, who was running a great race, and almost moved into third about 25 laps from the end.

He explained how his handling went off and that he was lucky to finish eighth. Mi-Jack driver Nelson Philippe finished ninth, so it was a relatively good race for Mi-Jack Conquest.

    Here are some pics.

Sebastein Bourdais is a great driver, been watching him since F3000, when he won the championship over Thomas Enge because Enge tested positive for pot. CART is a great racing series, and hopefully someday in the near future cool heads will prevail and the IRL and CART will merge and become the great series it once was. I would love to see Bourdais in F1, and have been waiting for him to make that step since his championship in F3000.

Anways, good picture in the pits.
