    turbos?

    question here:

what are the different types of turbo you can get
im mainly talking about the high performance ones here (not diesel)
just wondering how they differ to the normal types you would find on every day turbo'd cars?

    Boost pressure
    Air volume
    Boost controls
PRICE ( based on materials used bearings etc )

Pretty much they all work the same, boost control ( and in copmetition anti-lag ) controls add complexity and computer control for peak performance.

I only know of 2 different types of turbo's, and they'd be the normal ones using fluid to keep the turbine shaft turning, the other would be ball bearing turbo's, which actually use ball bearings, so they can spool up faster

    yes.
An ECU can control the wastegate to bypass the exhaust gasses and maintain an optimum boost for different revs.
It can also be controlled more easily - but crudely - with a controlled BOV.
Again these just vent boost at different levels for different conditions (revs)

A good place to start for anything is www.howstuffworks.com and put 'turbo' in the search. Alwyas worth checking it for answers first
