The sort of stupidity that breeds a Subaru Impreza STi-based quad bike can only be found in the remotest parts of the world.

Take New Zealand, for instance. Here's a country cut off from the rest of the right-thinking world, a place so isolated that they need to fill their time somehow.

Ken Brough has filled his time building just such a quad, and his reasoning for it? "Why not?"

Complete with a 230bhp turbocharged 'flat' four engine, the 530kg quad has a power-to-weight ratio of 434bhp per tonne, or more than twice a normal Scooby's.

The original Impreza's four-wheel drive is still in place, and Ken describes the quad as "awesomely quick".

Even with four-wheel drive, the STi-ATV - as Ken calls his machine - manages to lift up the front wheels under hard acceleration to do wheelies.

If you fancy one for yourself, Ken is thinking of making a few more STi-ATVs. Now, where can we book a flight to New Zealand? Sounds like our kind of place.
