American Cars tend to be larger than European cars, I think because they traditionally have a lot more driving space. I mean in Miami we have a lot of our B grade roads are still 3 lanes. In England, and a lot of Europe, the roads are a lot more narrow, and their tends to be a lot less friving room. I think cars became more compact as the need arose. That said also, with the huge trucks and SUVs, I think that is just fashion half the time and utility the other half. Why what has the potential to be an interesting dicussion should deteriorate into polarization and insulting comments is beyond me. I spend my time fairly evenly between Miami, Washington D.C., New York, London, and Frankfurt (I work in development) and although the differences are clear, the thing that always strikes me is how similar these places are when compared to other places. American can get so big because they have the sapce for it. If Europe had the space, I am pretty sure there will be much bigger brands of European cars. I mean it is just a matter of circumstance. American (sports) cars are traditionally known for their excellent linear accerleration backed by serious horsepower. Amercian roads to a great extent tend to be straight (or straightish). European cars tend to work on handling more, any one who has driven in London needs nno reminder of how many twists and turns one is likely to take within an average 5 mile city trip. It is circumstance and variety that is the spice of life..that is all. A Ford Ka would be a little useless in driving 400 highway miles at 70-120 miles an hour every other weekend, like I usually do..however my Ford Mustang is perfect for the job. My 1994 Mustang for all its grunt and 5 litre engine
would struggle negotiating all the twists and turns necessary for the drive through the city in London. My rental Corsa, Clio or Focus handles it fine...
Mustangs/ TVRs, M3s, 911 Turbos...make me smile from ear to ear...everything else..just makes me smile.
Hemi, please update your profile so we know your location ( state is good enough - it's not that we're going to send the stazi for you ) AND your age ( the reason for that is obvious ! ).Originally Posted by HEMI
First, 2 people pointed out the shouting because you joined UCP and immediately started yelling. Tell me, if someone came into your group of friends and started shouting are you telling us that you woudlnt' tell him/her to shut up ? Ok, that lesson is learned hopefully.
Secondly, you need to learn more about "social responsibility" before posting anymore as it was one of the founding tenets of the authors of the American constitution and is present in all 'free' democracies. There is a reason
Thridly, shouting doesn't make your point of view right in ony weakens any argument you try to put forward. Reasoning works in democracies, shouting works in fascist states ( and communist )

Could you please explain exactly how I am a socialist?Originally Posted by HEMI
Socialism is based on the theory of state control.
I.e. there are no private companies or enterprises, all people should be "equal".
How is my opinion that SUVs are too big make me socialist?
If I said that everyone should drive round in the same car, built by the state car company, that would be socialist.
You make completely unfounded, irrational accusations, along with discriminatory remarks, with no form of evidence or proof. Other than you saying so.
I strongly advise you to either make some intelligent comments or take your opinions to www.ultimatesocialistpage.com instead
Just because you are shouting, doesn't make it true.
I shall no longer respond to you, unless you do make some effort to form coherent arguments.

ahhhhhh there's not enough room in Europe.......
Avg. #s so don't harp on that.. just the fact that per area there's about 2 Europeans per 1 American comparativley... So if you doubled the United States population then I'm sure there would be alot more restrictions on autos.

ok, theres a few too many quotes from you hemi, having to do with things about as distantly related to cars as you could possibly argue about. this forum is a place for people passionate about cars, and a few other things, not political fanatics.

Your good ol boy attitude is a religion based on ignorance. Firstly I like big cars, have an SUV (which I choose to call a 4X4) and large 350 V8 sedan. I have argued my point "for" large cars and in the end I dont think either side of the argument is likely to come around. That is not the point of these debates. It is to express you opinion and listen to others.Originally Posted by HEMI

This may be kind of off the subject of big cars, but the dodge viper has a 505 cubic inch engine that gets probably about the same gas mileage as the h2 hummer. I just thought i'd say that...still is an awesome car though...
