I was thinking about starting up a place like this here in Cali.. anybody think it would fly? and what are your opinions on it? Places like gotham dream cars in NY have a Bentley GT, Ferrari 360, and a porsche 911 all between 1-2k daily.

Do you have the start-up money to buy the cars in the first place?
Audi humbles Porsche. A new dawn starts today.
Being nice since 2007.
You need a small fortune to even start something like that.

yea. i have met the owner of gotham dream cars, hes very active on fchat. a friend of mine would have rented the gallardo which they had but they require a 10k dollar deposite.
i think if u have the money to buy one of those cars then go for it. if not then dont. its as simple as that. if u buy the car and your business doesnt work, you still have the car to keep to urself or sell.

Probably upwards of a few million, for buying the plot, setting up shop, buying the cars, insurance, etc.Originally Posted by Quiggs

Oh yeah... We've got the unborrowed funds to start it. But its still something that caters to a very niche market. We're in santa barbara/montecito area so there are plenty of wealthy citizens, tourists and yuppies around.
If you've got the couple of million to start up, I don't see why not. Most major supercars don't depreciate much so if the business doesn't work out you can sell them or just keep them.Originally Posted by DrewFM04

By "Cali" I assume you're referring to California? There's already one company like that in Beverly Hills where you can rent Ferraris, Austin Martins, Bentleys, Lambos etc.

If you have the funds to start you biz up, check a few things first:
1-Talk to local insurance companies and see if they will ensure your cars at all. Some insurance companies are reluctant to insure exotic rental cars becuase they never know who will be renting the cars and how they will drive them.
2-Do you have a business plan? Financial projections for the first 5 years, marketing plan, administrative structure ect? I hope you do, a business plan is the map of where your biz is at the start and how to reach your goals in the future.
3-This also should be part of your business plan: A market study, since you have the money, invest in this if you haven't already. It'll show you what and where you target market is and how to reach it.
Good luck with your business venture!!

What happens if the guy wrecks the car and he runs away?
From what I've heard, this is a good way to minimize losses when starting this type of deal:
1. Buy cars in black or silver, as they tend to have greater re-sale value.
2. Buy cars with automatic transmissions. Cars with standard trannies tend to get abused (burnouts, etc), and I'm sure you don't want to pay for a 5-digit clutch replacement.
thats what ten thousand dollar deposits and insurance are for. and if he wants to run away with the car, Gotham Dream Cars has GPS in each car and can remote disable it and then send a towOriginally Posted by NSXType-R

Prior to giving out the car you go through some paperwork. By the time the customer leaves the place you have a drivers lisence number, a credit card, a name, an address and a money deposit.... And if it was me renting Ferraris and Lambos you would have to leave a member of your family at my office
theres a place in melbourne that does it, you can hire a lambo diablo for 2k a day. dont know what the deposit is though...
