Hahahaha, those curtains are so dainty.
Back in the eighties I used to tell Americans one of the reason the Chevrolet Caprice sold so poorly in Japan is because the Japanese make their own (slightly smaller) Caprice for domestic consumption.Originally Posted by bmwpower
There are whole crops of upscale Japanese cars, usually reserved for the home market (although the Toyota Century is available in China with LHD steering-wheel), whose design is intentionally aping the patrician style of the kind Detroit used on the Buick Electras, Oldsmobile 88s and Chrysler New-Yorkers. The Toyota Centuries, Crown Majestas, Nissan Cedric Broughams, and other Mitsubishi Debonairs are/were sold mostly to the generation of postwar Showa-era executives dilignetly running corporate Japan, as well as the civil servants humbly serving the now fully-humanised emperor.
The Japanese motor industry also kept oddly clinging on throughout the eighties and nineties to some quaint style ideas, such us the US-originated four-door hardtop sedan (extinct Stateside since the late seventies), even on smaller cars such as the Toyota Sprinter Marino (a Corolla derivative) or the Nissan Presea (a Sunny derivative).
Same for the British style forward wing-mirrors (as seen on the Toyota Century above), also long gone in their native UK, which used to be quite common on many Japanese cars till the late nineteen-eighties.
Awesome pics smxi. Out of any Toyota cars, I would pick this one!

I don't know... I would probably prefer old 4Runner (90-95) or Land Cruiser FJ40-70.Originally Posted by Lets Gekiga In
