Just quit from my local job and am now trying to pick one up as a mechanic's assistant at a local shop. Any tips for me?

I already have a basic tool set. 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4" drive with metric and standard sockets, short and deep. Also some misc screwdrivers (torax, flat, phillips, and some ones I've never even heard of before).Originally Posted by johnnynumfiv

Also; for those of who have worked as managers or in shops; would you hire a young enthusiastic 18-year old, who can tackle small jobs? I can do the following well enough for people to trust me to perform them on their car;
1. Camshaft&components replacement (cam gear, timing belt/chain, valve seats)
2. Diagnostic machine hook-up (Know how to use one; primary/secondary ignition, 4 gas analyzer)
3. All the basic tune-ups; (Brakes, oil changes, belt changes, sparktrain changes)
4. And I can diagnose most problems given that you give me the proper equipment (Fuel pressure tester, diagnosis machine, OBD II reader, leak-down tester, etc. etc.)
