Dont quote me on this, but one of my friends at uni in Leeds, has said that he suffered a spinal injury. If this is true then, that could be very serious indeed.

in the video it says he walked away from the crash so it cant be to bad but yeah i hope he is alright i cant imagine anyone taking his place
I really hope he pulls through and that he makes it ok. I wish him a speedy and good recovery and I wish the best for his family.
The "he walked away" thing was I think just a rumour from people at the airfield. The police have reported that he had to be cut from the vehicle, which would suggest that he didn't just walk away.Originally Posted by ferrarifreak013
I've heard rumours that he was rushed to a hospital with a specialist neurological unit rather than just the nearest hospital, which would suggest that it is serious head injuries rather than spinal. The fact that he had regained consciousness to some extent is a very encouraging sign if it is indeed a head injury.
Hope he makes a full recovery.

i really hope he pulls through,
how was he able to reach 180 in nurinburg though
ohh it in km/h
do you have link to the crash, did the car roll over or did it hit a wall
what happened
Once fanboyism infects you it impares all your judgement.
It's like being drunk, you lack common sense and everyone laughs at you.
It rolled over, airfields don't have walls.

It was on at Elvington airfield in North Yorkshire, UK, nowhere near the Nurburgring (assuming that's what you meant by "nurinburg"). And it was in mph, not kph. There are various reports as to the speed he was travelling. Some say he was at 180mph, others 280mph, and The Sun newspaper claim he was at 315mph, although that's probably wildly exaggerated.
Apparently they had already broken whatever speed record it was they were trying to break, and Hammond went out one last time for another run. Reportedly the accident happened as the parachute was deployed. It somehow caused the car to veer off course and it eventually rolled. If the parachute had been deployed it would suggest the speed would've decreased from whatever huge speed he was doing, so I'd guess 180 is nearer the mark than 280.
Apparently BBC radio news is now reporting that his condition has improved and he is now 'stable'. Very good news if that's confirmed.

That's great to hear he is doing better. Out of the 3 fellows I've seen host on Top Gear, Richard is my favorite.
