This thread is going to turn into a bunch of magazine racers soon.
There's a lot of cars running around with 12:1 compression on the street. Add the right cam and heads, and it shouldn't be a problem.

Since when is 420rwhp 550 at the crank? I know of some N/A cars that do 600rwhp with a 347 but they also turn 9k rpm's and have 15:1 compression. TRMN8r's car put down close to 500rwhp with I belive a MS4, AFR 225 heads, exhaust, and a fast 90/90 that was unported. So with the fast 90/90 ported yes its possable but its expensive. My friends vette put down 470rwhp withouth a 90/90 so theres another car that will probably do it.Originally Posted by 2ndclasscitizen

Using 30% loss, 420whp is 546 horses at the crank. Is 30% a little high? Depends on the car. But it is possible.

Yes 30 percent is more of an awd car but were talking about corvettes and GTOs here, I think a 15 percent is more like it.Originally Posted by Quiggs

I agree 30% is close to what an AWD car would be, but a RWD car with an automatic trans and heavy duty driveline parts (driveshaft, axles, etc) is going to have more. Typical RWD loss is more like 20-25%. Usually only FWD cars are as low as 15%.

The new viper has a 9 percent drivetrain loss. But who cares no one goes by drive train loss whp is what everyone refers to now adays in the modded car world.Originally Posted by Quiggs

V8 Supercars produce 600+hp on pump gas with only 300cid but they'd be a total pig to street drive
Pump gas as in 92? Or pump gas as in 110?Originally Posted by nota

Luckily for the rest of the Western world, pump gas isn't 92RON.Originally Posted by johnnynumfiv

i'm not sure what octane level he's running but it is pump gas. i tried to find some sort of serial number or any number on the carb. couldn't find anything. but it's not a 950, i think 750. not sure though. i drove the car the other day and it is really snappy, i wasn't expecting so much low end tourqe.
Is that avable at your average gas station? We have some stations that have a single pump of 110 but their rare.Originally Posted by nota

http://www.thirdgen.orgCamaro and Firebird forum, 383 strokers are quite common there, I'm sure someone on there has a 500+ hp stroker
