First, I didn't mean the full sentence which Fleet wrote later, I was actually referring to the 1/4 mile mania, since after a post with the 1/4 mile figure, at the question "how does she run?" the first aswer that comes to mind is the 1/4 mile figure, which I'm sure is what everyone would be thinking about, and that now one care about in Europe or Italy if you prefer. They do care about the 0-100 km/h, less than it used to be I have to say, but no one know how fast even the last Ferrari runs the 1/4 miles, or even the full kilometer.
And yes, there was sarcasm in there.

Sarcasm and internet usually don't blend well...
And yes, nobody cares about 1/4 mile times in Europe. For a start (except for the brits) almost nobody how long is 1/4 mile... I'd say that if anything the most important staright line performance stat for Europeans is the top speed, but as Damiano says we aren't very interested in straight line speed. Probably because we don't have many straights...

Visca Catalunya!

This from a person who has never had the opportunity to WORK on one of these POS. Build quality is crap, reliability is crap, parts availability is crap ( second only to Land Rover, the worlds LARGEST pile I have ever had the displeasure of working on or driving. That's another thread though ), and, with the exception of the esteemed group here, the customers who own VAG products are Katrina victim poor. They want European flair with a Ford Focus budget.
Answer this, why has Volkswagen come back with the Sign and Drive program? You don't see BMW, Mercedes, Lexus giving away cars like VW. It's because they don't have too. The product speaks for itself. So does VW, that's why they give them away.
