I don't know, maybe the gen 1 TT will be a classic because of it's shape? I mean, it looks like a 911 that became a VW Beetle which came from a VW Beetle. You know, the upscale interior, etc.
Nice car indeed. I like the shape of the TT.
I think the car looks completely original as a design. It puts a smile on my face just looking out the window at it. The question of whether or not it's a "true" sports car isn't one that I lose any sleep over. One thing is for sure, it's interesting enough for people in town to take a second look, even for a now 10 year old car.
Well yes and no. I think it looks derivative of the VW Beetle and the Porsche 911, but obviously that's my opinion. Add the fact that the performance of the car is somewhere between the two (obviously the TT isn't going to beat a 911, but it probably will beat a new Beetle).
No doubt it's interesting, I've always liked it's simplistic shape.
I like the first-gen version, though a test drive at the time proved I was too tall for it. The aluminum console detail was painful on my right leg after about an hour.
The 1.8 is a good engine and with quattro, all you need. Nice car.

PINGAS!!!!
looks nice rob, and the coupe is much less hairdresser than the cab. as far as the 180 hp, you must realize that there are many companies out there that can turn that engine up to 11. i remember something about the 1.8T and its inability to lose.
