Going mainstream: Scion’s newest problem
Should Comcast, which is buying NBC, have more motorsports coverage on VERSUS and now NBC? Does North America need a racing tv channel? Find the answer to that exact question on facebook.
yeah if you want to make money
marketing > manufacturing > engineering
in terms of importance
pathetic
it was actually me who killed vasilli zaitsev, heinz thorwald, carlos hatchcock, and simo hayha
As a 21 year old, the tC is the only one of their cars I'd consider buying, and even then it's not my first choice.
I don't know what made them think a toaster on wheels is what the kids want.
i was waiting on a moment, but the moment never came. all the billion other moments, were just slipping all away. i must have been tripping, we're just slipping all away. just ego tripping.
I'll choose a 1st-gen xB, but even then, it'll be as zepplin said, a 2nd or 3rd choice.
Now, make them RWD and we'll talk.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.
I might as well buy a Supra and put down a down payment on a new GT-R (or a 911 RS America)

I think the tC is actually a great looking car.
Sounded like a good idea at the time. Then came the weird advertising and ugly looking cars.
Anyone remember seeing weird sheep like creatures getting their heads bitten off in a Scion advertisement? I would post the video, but I can't find it on youtube.
Yes that was for the launch of the redesigned xB and new xD models. They had a name for those things (They sent out literature to Scion owners).
That has been the problem with Scion since day 1, the age of the buyer. I got mine when they first went on sale and my friends all made fun of me, as did many of you, and I harped on about it being a youth brand and then all my friends and I saw was old people driving around in them so I looked like an idiot.
I do know plenty of people who like my car though, it's practical, fuel efficient and all that and perfect for a college kid. However I guess it is also a good car for an older retired people...
News flash to Toyota...if your economic division of cars aren't selling in the face of high fuel prices....you have a loser on your hands.
That advertisement really puzzled me. It's was really violent and poorly done I think.
I don't mind them all too much. I only mind them when they're riced. I see lots of guys with tCs with Lambo doors, fartcan exhaust pipe, etc. and I wonder why in the world...? But doesn't Toyota think they're shooting themselves in the foot? If they make the Corolla and Matrix as it is, couldn't they market those better than actually creating a completely different line of cars? It makes no sense to create (and destroy the Toyota Celica, might I add) cars that are much too similar. I'm sure the new Matrix is quite spacious inside.
Honda was pretty smart with the Element. They too wanted to market it to young people but then old people love it way too much. At least it's relatively successful and it's not a while new lineup.
They already do. It's called the Corolla, and for some stupid reason they decided it to style it conseratively and not market it well at all.
I never understood that either. I hope no one is getting me wrong I absolutely love my Scion but you're right Toyota did something wrong here. They decided that young people didn't want a car associated with old people so they started Scion instead of either a) taking the cars young people liked (Matrix, Celica, tC) and starting those as Scions and maybe changing the brand or b) change the way they marketed those as Toyotas to make more effort for them to appeal to young people. Then they wouldn't have the failed Scion experiment.
i would think 'cheap with good fuel economy' would have been enough of an incentive to market it to younger people.
Andreas Preuninger, Manager of Porsche High Performance Cars: "Grandmas can use paddles. They aren't challenging."
If Toyota wants a hit, recreate the AE86 and pimp it to the drifters and Initial D fanboys.
