Sports car racing legend, Derek Bell turned 75 earlier this week, which prompted us to take a detailed look at the very Porsche 962C he scored his fifth and final 24 Hours of Le Mans victory with. A works car, chassis 962-006 was first used late in 1986 for two rounds of the World Championship but with little success. It then served as a spare car until being pressed back into service for Le Mans in 1987. Here it was driven to a convincing victory by Bell, who was joined by Al Holbert and Hans-Joachim Stuck for the occasion. The car was retained by Porsche and is today displayed in the Porsche Museum when it is not demonstrated. It is shown in this 34-shot gallery in action at a variety of events with, among others, Derek Bell himself at the wheel.
This week, the SEMA Show has taken over Las Vegas and amidst all the custom cars, one of the truly newsworthy debut was this Ford Mustang GT4. Based on the highly acclaimed Shelby GT350, it is powered by a 5.2-litre V8 and equipped with a paddle-actuated Holinger six-speed transmission. As the name suggests, the new Mustang GT4 will be eligible for all national and international championships run under the GT4 class and should see action on both sides of the Atlantics from the start of the 2017 season.
