Thoroughly modified, the massive seven-litre unit produced a hefty 546 bhp. It was mated to a Getrag six-speed gearbox that had originally been developed for the BMW 850i. Ensuring the Storm would go around corners as well were double wishbones on all four corners, with fully adjustable springs and dampers. Despite the extensive use of lightweight and exotic materials the sumptuously finished Storm nevertheless tipped the scales at over 1,660 kg.

At the time of the launch, Pearce indicated Lister could produce up to ten Storms per year depending on customer demand. Eventually, the company came nowhere near that figure as the high price scared most customers away. Eventually only four examples were produced when production ceased late in 1994. Pearce instead set his sight on GT racing, which was quickly gaining interest around the world. The various Storm-based competition cars did proof very successful and were raced well into the 2000s.

The Lister Storm road car remains as one of numerous failed attempts to successfully market a new high performance sports car. What is certain that in this case, the car was not to blame as period journalist reports suggest the car more than lived up to all the bold performance claims published by Lister at the car's launch. The car's high price was its ultimately its undoing. Two decades later and under new ownership, Lister is giving it another go with a 'hypercar' that has a tentative price tag of &163;2 million. For the company's sake, let's hope history does not repeat itself.

Of the four Lister Storms produced, three are known to still be in existence.
