The very luxuriously appointed interior featured sumptuous red leather seats and panels. The dashboard was painted to match the exterior colour and boasted Veglia gauges, a locking glove box and a deluxe radio. The steering wheel was also a one-off design and featured an unusual bakelite rim.

Revealed in March of 1962 in Geneva, the striking Bertone 250 GT SWB very much was the 'belle of the ball'. Following its debut, Bertone used the car on the road and it was also in the Biscaretti Museum and the Turin Motor Show. Despite the universal praise received for the design, Ferrari never acknowledged the car in period. In response to a christmas gift from Nuccio Bertone, Enzo Ferrari did send a reply in which he underlined that he believed both men were gripped by the same passion.

Bertone retained the one-off 250 GT SWB until March of 1963, when it was sold to one of his suppliers and it eventually ended up in North America. Ferrari and Bertone did end up working together but it would take another decade and the 308 GT4 Bertone built for Ferrari does not rank as the finest hour for either company. The cooperation was short-lived as Ferrari called upon Pininfarina again for its replacement.

While it ultimately failed to convince Enzo Ferrari of the 'errors' of his ways, the 1962 Geneva Show car remains as one of Bertone's finest designs and arguably also as one of the very best coach-built Ferraris. In 2007, a decade after Nuccio Bertone's passing, Ferrari finally acknowledged the superb machine by granting it the coveted Classiche certificate.
