Page 1 of 1 This is the Ferrari 612P as raced in the 1968 and 1969 Can-Am. It was powered by a 6.22 litre V12 engine that produced about 640-660bhp, that wasn't powerful enough to compete with the big American engines. It was only raced a few times in 1968 and the car was entered for the first time in 1969 when the season was 3 races old. Once it appeared it was a threat to the McLarens, on its toes and in the rest of the season driver Amon qualified on pole sometimes, led a few laps and scored 2nd and 3rd but far more often the engine let him down. Amon's underfinanced team only had 2 engines: a fast but unreliable one and a slower one that still was pretty unreliable. At the end they received a 6.9 litre engine making it a 712P, this is the biggest Ferrari engine ever built. Ferrari wasn't able to impress on what they considered to be their main market for road cars: the USA. Page 1 of 1
