It was worth the wait as the first Aston Martin Grand Prix car designed by Adrian Newey proved as radical as expected. Not only did the Lawrence Stroll owned team obtain the services of the legendary designer ahead of the 2026 season, Aston Martin F1 also changed engine suppliers from Mercedes-AMG F1 to Honda Racing as part of a full works deal.

Built to meet the most extensively changed set of regulations in decades, the AMR26 is narrower, shorter and lighter than its predecessor. Crucially, ground-effect aerodynamics are once again banned. Capable of reading the rules better than most, Newey set about creating what looks like a very aerodynamically efficient machine with an unusually high front wishbone, minimal side-pods and a very tightly wrapped engine cover. Underneath the carbon-fibre composite skin sits Honda’s simplified power unit, which for 2026 can only have one hybrid element. This nevertheless will be responsible for 50% of the total power output.

Unchanged for the new season is the driver line-up, which once again consists of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.
