Page 1 of 1  This is the Bugatti Type 64, as built in 1939. Ettore Bugatti wanted to replace the Type 57 series with this Type 64. The chassis was not that much different from the car it had to replace but the engine was fitted with chain driven camshafts to reduce the noise. Four frames were built but only two cars were completed. Jean Bugatti designed a body for the Type 64 with gullwing doors, and that was 15 years before the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.Page 1 of 1 |
