Chassis:
Believed to be a Works Monza, chassis 2111042 was used early in 1932 by Alfa Romeo, awaiting the completion of the new Tipo B / P3 Grand Prix car. It was subsequently sold to Raymond Sommer, who used the car in Grands Prix as well as sports car races. For the latter use, the car was equipped with cycle wing fenders. Sommer scored an impressive victory in the 1932 GP de Marseille, beating Tazio Nuvolari in one of the new Tipo Bs. He then sold the car to amateur racer Juan Zanelli. The Chilean raced the car quite successfully in the following years. Like so many other 8C 2300s, chassis 2111042 was refitted with a road car body, in this case built by Papler in Germany. In the 1960s, a replica Monza body was refitted on the chassis and the car became a regular in Britsh VSCC events. In the 1990s the Monza was restored once again and shown at Pebble Beach in 1999. It was then acquired by the current owner, who races the Alfa Romeo regularly. He is seen here at the 2008 Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
