Chassis:
The very last BT49 built, this chassis was raced only once, by Ricardo Patrese in the Canadian Grand Prix. He finished second behind his team-mate Nelson Piquet, who scored the maiden victory of the BMW-engined BT50. This chassis was later gifted to designer Gordon Murray by Bernie Ecclestone. He later sold the car to Ian Giles, who successfully raced it in historic events from 1997. It was subsequently sold to German history racer Christian Gläsel, who drove it to the Historic Formula 1 Championship in 2005. In 2018, it was offered by British dealer Fiskens, who found a suitable new owner. He is seen here in action during the 2020 Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort.
