Chassis:
Originally a spare car, this 956 was pressed into service halfway through 1953 after Stefan Bellof crashed chassis 007 at the Nürburgring. It was fielded for Jochen Mass and Bellof in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The German pairing qualified third and lead the race during the first four hours before a myriad of issues saw them drop down the order before it retired in the 23rd hour. A week later, Bellof drove the car to victory at the Norisring. It was subsequently damaged at Weissach and for reasons unknown, it was renumbered 007 during the repairs. With this identity, it was raced at Le Mans by Richard Lloyd in 1984 and was also used by the works team three more times. The car was later sold by Porsche to Derek Bell and has since been renumbered 956-008 again.
