Chassis:
The second 'works' Chaparral, chassis 003 made its debut at the 1962 Sebring 12 Hours where it was shared by Hap Sharp, Jim Hall, Chuck Daigh and Ronnie Hissom. The finished sixth overall and first in class. Chaparral partners Hall and Sharp later that year won the Road America 500 Miles outright in this car. In 1964, it was acquired by Gary Wilson, who raced for the better part of the season. In 1965, it was given its final contemporary outings, first by Joe Starkey and later by Eugene Nearburg. By the early 1970s, the very tired Chaparral was bought by a Dr. Gary Lund.
Dr. Lund already owned the car for many years when he finally decided to have the car restored in the late 1980s. He entrusted the work to Steven Schultz, who in return for all his efforts received a 50% stake in the car. The work was finally completed in 1997 and the car was shown at various events before being sold to Skip Barber in 2001. Three years later, Barber sold the car on to its current owner, a very prominent collector and historic racer. He has raced chassis 003 in historic events on both sides of the Atlantic with considerable success.
