Troutman-Barnes struggled to find an owner for the fourth Chaparral and fielded it for Rodger Ward in the 1962 Riverside Grand Prix. Sadly the two-time Indy 500 winner did not even make it to the start of the race due to a major accident in practice, which required the chassis to be replaced. Troutman-Barnes did manage to find a new owner for the car; Chuck Jones. Raced by Skip Hudson under the Team Meridian banner chassis 004 won first time out in June of 1963 at Laguna Seca in a regional event. The following day, Hudson impressed again with a class victory in the USRRC race. The Chaparral was raced until the end of the year and it eventually ended up in Jones' scrapyard stripped off all its usable components.
Many years later a prospective buyer enquired about the car and Jones retrieved all the remaining components to start a restoration project. The chassis was in a sorry state, so Jones asked Dick Troutman to build a brand new chassis; the car's third. The buyer did not manage to complete the restoration and after ten years sold it to another enthusiast, who spent a further five years but again failed to complete the car. Finally, a third custodian took up the project and managed to return ex-Team Meridian Chaparral to its original configuration. In this guise, it was sold at RM Auctions' 2005 Monterey sale where it found a new owner for just under $600,000.
