The penultimate works Porsche 956 built, chassis 009 was raced with great success during for several seasons. From 11 race starts, it accumulated seven pole positions, seven wins and seven fastest laps. In 1984, it was instrumental in securing the World Championship for both Porsche and driver Stefan Bellof. During much of the 1985 and 1986 seasons, it served as a spare car and it last appeared at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1986 when it was used in practice only by Al Holbert.
