Chassis:
This is the very first BT5 built, which was originally fielded for Frank Gardner by Ian Walker Racing. Gardner, who had also raced Formula Juniors for the Brabham works team, used it to finish first in class at Snetterton and to win the Guards Trophy at Brands Hatch outright. In the fall of 1963, the car was brought to the United States, where it failed to impress but eventually did attract a buyer; Peter Sachs. He campaigned the car with considerable success in local events for several more seasons, eventually replacing the Ford Cosworth engine with a more powerful BMW 'four'. In more recent years, it was raced in historic events on both sides of the Atlantic by a fellow American, who at the time also owned the famous Ian Walker Racing Gold Bug Elan.
