Chassis:
Completed in September of 1953 and fitted with the Tipo 102 engine, this customised Pinin Farina Spyder was sold new to American privateer racer Jim Kimberley. Among the changes Kimberley requested were pontoon fenders to improve brake cooling. He raced the car throughout the United States in 1954, winning a staggering 17 of the first 20 events he competed in. Sadly, chassis 0364AM was severely damaged when the trailer that was carrying it to the 1955 Sebring 12 Hours flipped. Once repaired, it was only race three more times by Kimberley before he sold it on to Richard Lyeth.
Lyeth continued to campaign the car, eventually replacing the exotic V12 with a domestic V8. Apparently, the V12 was later used on a boat, which subsequently sunk, taking the prized Ferrari engine with it. In 1968, the V8-engined Ferrari was acquired by Chuck Weiss, who eventually managed to track down engine 0436AM, which had been built in period for Kimberley as a spare for this 375 MM. A Ford suspension and handling engineer by trade, Weiss himself completely restored the Ferrari during the 1980s. Following a 45-year ownership, the car was offered at the 2013 RM Auctions Monterey Sale where it found a new owner for just over $9 million.
