Chassis:
Originally built as a MS670B in 1973, this chassis was never raced in this guise. For the 1974 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it was updated to full MS670C specification. It was entered for Jean-Pierre Jabouille and Francois Migault, who finished third in the race won by Henri Pescarolo and Gerard Larousse in a similarly updated MS670C. Chassis 05 was not raced again and following Matra's withdrawal from racing at the end of 1974, it sat in the Matra factory museum for many years.
The car was eventually sold to Michel Raffaelli and Lionel Chevalier, who restored the very original Matra to full running order. It has since passed into the hands of a great Matra enthusiast. In more recent years, it has been beautifully prepared for racing by Hall & Hall. Both father Rick and son Rob Hall have taken turns behind the wheel of this machine with considerable success. Rob is seen here in action during the 2009 Silverstone CER race where he claimed pole and was on its way to win the race until a suspension failure forced him to retire early. Chassis 05 is also seen earlier that year during the Goodwood Festival of Speed where Matra was one of the featured marques.
