Chassis 002 was one of the C5s used most extensively by the works team. It was fielded in a wide variety of events in 1976 and 1977 for Herbert Müller and Eugen Strahl respectively. They both scored victories with the car and in 1976, it helped Müller to secure the Interserie Championship. In 1980, the chassis 002 was sold to German Norbert Dombrowski, who continued to campaign the car with a variety of engines including a Chevrolet V8 and Ford/Zakspeed turbo until 1984. The second Sauber C5 has since been restored to its original configuration.
