Chassis:
Little known Swiss coach-builder Langenthal is believed to have clothed just two Delahaye chassis. This 135 MS chassis originally received a convertible body with sweeping 'teardrop' fenders and a two-tone finish. After the original owner complained about the wind noise of the drop-down roof, Langenthal created a removable hard-top. Due to its sheer size, this was very heavy, so soon after it was permanently fixed to the car, turning it from a convertible into a coupe.
Now completely to the liking of the French owners, the Langenthal Coupe was retained by the same family for many years. Like so many French coach-built cars, it was eventually sold to an American enthusiast. Among the subsequent owners was noted collector Gordon Apker, who gave the Delahaye's its first public appearances. Chassis 800490 has changed hands since but remained highly original with the exception of a recent repaint. The previous owners entered it in various concours in 2011 and 2012 and played with the idea of returning it to the original convertible configuration. Instead they consigned it to RM Auctions, who sold it at their 2013 Amelia Island sale for $330,000.
