Chassis:
Entrusted to defending Can-Am champion Denny Hulme, this was the second of two works McLarens built ahead of the 1971 season. Hulme won the opening round of the season at Mosport and later in the season also scored victories at Edmonton and Riverside. This was enough to finish second in the championship behind team-mate Revson, who won five rounds in the sister M8F. For the 1972 season, chassis M8F/2 was sold to Gregg Young, who raced it until crashing it in practice at Edmonton. Fortunately the remains of the car were saved and it was eventually rebuilt to its 1971 works configuration. After changing hands several times, it was acquired by the current owner in the early 2000s. He has since regularly raced the M8F in vintage events, wearing a replica Denny Hulme helmet.
