Chassis:
Rick Mancuso, a Chicago-based racer and good friend of John Greenwood ordered this car for the 1976 Daytona and Sebring races. Due to delays, the car was not ready until Sebring. Unfortunately, it also failed to start this race due to an accident in practice. With Greenwood's own car out of commission and a Le Mans entry looming, he convinced Mancuso to lend him the now repaired chassis CC007 for the French classic. Mancuso was initially slated to drive but business obligations forced him to remain in Chicago. As the 'Spirit of Le Mans', this Greenwood Corvette was instead raced at La Sarthe by Greenwood and Bernard Darniche until damage from a blown tyre prompted an early retirement.
Once repaired, the Wide Body Corvette was returned to Mancuso, who re-liveried the machine as the 'City of Chicago'. He campaigned the car at Daytona, Sebring and Watkins Glen the following year but with limited success. At the end of 1977, it was retired from contemporary racing. In the subsequent years, it passed through various hands until it was acquired by the current owner in the early 1990s. One of two Greenwood Corvettes in his collection, he had it restored to its 'Spirit of Le Mans' livery. It has since been sparsely shown but did return to Europe in the summer of 2012 for appearances at the Le Mans Classic and Goodwood Festival of Speed.
