Chassis:
Originally built with an eight cylinder engine, this Tipo C was raced by the Scuderia Ferrari works team for the better part of two seasons. After several outings in Europe, it was shipped to the United States for the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup where it was driven in practice by Antonio Brivio, Giuseppe Farina and Tazio Nuvolari. After the race it was sold to Bill White for Rex Mays to race. With a modified, three litre version of the engine, Mays placed third in the 1938 Indy 500. At one point the chassis and engine were separated with the former returning to Alfa Romeo and the latter remaining in the United States. For the Museo Storico, the chassis was fitted with a 12-cylinder engine. The eight cylinder engine was used to build a replica around a spare chassis.
