Chassis:
Jochen Mass debuted this M26 at the Dutch Grand Prix in the summer of 1977. It was not the best of career starts for this chassis as an accident ended the race early. Later in the year Mass finished fourth and third in this car, and defending World Champion James Hunt used it to win the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji. Chassis M26-3 was then used throughout the 1978 season by both Hunt and new signing Patrick Tambay. The best results were a third for Hunt in the French Grand Prix and a fifth for Tambay at Monza. It was retired from contemporary racing after the Canadian Grand Prix in October of 1978. In more recent years, it has returned to the track, competiting on both sides of the Atlantic in historic events.
