Chassis: MP4/4-1
The first of six McLaren MP4/4s built, this chassis was raced early in the 1988 season by Ayrton Senna. The Brazilian used it to score the first two (San Marino and Canadian Grands Prix) of his eight victories that year. Upon its retirement, this chassis was retained by McLaren and for many years it was loaned to the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu. Ahead of McLaren's 50th anniversary celebrations, chassis 1 was completely restored to running order around the only Honda V6 engine McLaren own. It was driven at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by, among others, current McLaren F1 driver Sergio Perez.
