Chassis:
One of only two 917 PA Spyders and the only raced, chassis 917.028 was used by Jo Siffert for seven of the eleven Can-Am races in 1969. His consistent drives brought him fourth in the championship. Owned by Vasek Polak, it was raced for four more seasons, earning it the accolade of the most raced Can-Am car ever. By the end of its career, it featured the hugely powerful twin-turbo engine, developing nearly twice as many horses as the chassis was originally built for. This led to various suspension failures and eventually a career-ending accident. The remains of the car were eventually acquired by a prominent American Porsche collector, who had it completely restored to its most famous 1969 specification. In absolutely beautiful condition, it has been regularly demonstrated by Brian Redman, who originally raced the car in its turbocharged guise. More recently, it was restored once more, during which time the original side exhausts were added once more.
