Chassis:
Following its show duties, the original DeTomaso P70 was damaged in accident. It was subsequently disassembled and stored away. It was not seen again until after Alejandro de Tomaso passed away in 2004. The car was bought in bits from the estate and subsequently rebuilt. Due to the accident damage a brand new nose had to be created. Shown at the Quail, a Motorsports Gathering in 2006, it was later sold to an American enthusiast, who also owned the Sport 5000 competition car. He brought both to the Quail in 2013 where designer Peter Brock was honoured. The car was then fully restored and shown for a third time at the Quail, where it was awarded 'best in class'. Several years later, it was consigned to the Bonhams Quail Lodge auction with a $2-3 million estimate.
