Chassis:
One of the six Mercedes built for the 1914 French Grand Prix, this example served as the spare car and was not raced. Instead it was used before the event on reconnaissance runs. Sold by the factory, it eventually ended up in American hands. In more recent years, it joined a notable Florida-based collection. Following an eight-year restoration by expert Eddie Berrisford, it finally re-appeared in public during the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. In 2014, it was brought back to Lyon to the 100th anniversary of the type's Grand Prix victory and it was subsequently demonstrated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed along with the other two surviving cars.
