Chassis:
The second 5000 GT constructed, this was almost an exact copy of the original commissioned by the Shah of Persia with which it shared the 450S-derived V8 not used by the subsequent production models. It combined a Touring designed exterior with a lavish interior highlighted by numerous 18-carat gold fixtures. Chassis 103.004 was sold new to South African businessman Basil Read, who at the time also owned the country's most famous race track; Kyalami. Long after Read's ownership, the car eventually re-appeared in an Ohio museum during the second half of the 1990s. A subsequent owner had it meticulously restored to its original configuration and for many years it has now been part of a spectacular collection of Maseratis based in Connecticut.
