Chassis:
Completed in the summer of 1969, this BT26 was initially a spare. It made its race debut at the British Grand Prix where Jacky Ickx finished second. At the German Grand Prix a fortnight later, Ickx did one better and won the race. It was later also raced by Jack Brabham himself, who finished second, third and fourth in the car. At the start of the 1970 season, it was fielded by Tom Wheatcroft for Derek Bell in the Tasman Trophy. The best result with the now 2.5-litre engined machine was second. Later in the year, Bell also raced the car at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Following its successful racing career, chassis BT26-4 was retired to Wheatcroft's Donington Grand Prix Collection museum. Having been displayed for many years, it was eventually acquired by the ROFGO Collection. Restored to full running order, it has been regularly raced in historic events by the current owner. At the 2016 Goodwood Revival, Jack Brabham was honoured and for the occasion, Jacky Ickx was reunited with his 1969 German Grand Prix winning BT26.
In 2019, it was loaned to the Williams Heritage department where it was fitted with bespoke bodywork as used by Frank Williams in his first Grand Prix outings as an entrant with a sister BT26. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Williams' debut season, the BT26 was demonstrated in Piers Courage colours at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
