The second D-Type built, chassis XKC 402 was completed in May of 1954 and entered at Le Mans by the works team for Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton. The 1953 winners eventually finished 2nd overall. At the end of the 1955 season, the car was sold to Hamilton, who converted it for road use. He retained the car for nearly three decades, until it was sold at auction in 1984. The current owner acquired chassis XKC 402 in 2002 and has since used it extensively in historic events. Fully refurbished ahead of the D-Type's 50th anniversary, it was also shown at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in 2014.
