Chassis:
One of three works cars entered for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1954, chassis XKD 403 was piloted for the works team by Peter Walker and Stirling Moss. After setting a new top speed record of just over 278 km/h on the Mulsanne straight, the car retired with a brake failure. Fitted with a 2.5-litre engine, it was later raced to second in the Dundrod TT. In private hands, the works D-Type continued to be campaigned for many more years, with considerable success but also suffering several major accidents. Rebuilt several times, chassis XKD 403 is today owned by an American enthusiast, who has campaigned it in historic events on both sides of the Atlantic.
