Built as a works car, this 300S was sold new to favoured customer Francisco Godia Sales from Barcelona, Spain. He first raced the car together with Jo Bonnier in the 1956 Swedish Grand Prix where the pairing retired with transmission issues. The Spaniard later won at Monthléry before returning the 300S to the factory for subtle revisions to the body like additional bake cooling ducts and grill-covered side-vents. In 1958, it was further modified and also received the long nose. Its racing career continued for several more years and it eventually ended up in South America. During the 1980s, it was owned by American collector Bibs Stillwell and in 1989, chassis 3056 was acquired by German historic racer Hartmut Ibing. He owned and raced the car until 2007 and in more recent years, it joined the collection of an American enthusiast.
