Chassis:
Sold to the Maserati Corporation of America, this 300S debuted at the 1956 Sebring 12 Hours in the hands of Cesare Perdisa and Carlos Menditeguy. They failed to reach the finish due to a heavy accident. The wreck received a second blow when the trailer was hit by a truck on the way back. The car was nevertheless repaired by Maserati of America, eventually re-appearing in May of 1957. Sold to John Edgar, it was then raced to two victories by Carroll Shelby in SCCA events. In 1959, the car returned to Sebring but had another disastrous outing as driver Edwin P. Lawrence crashed fatally in practice. Chassis 3060 was rebuilt once more but this time fitted with a fibreglass body and it later also received a GM V8 engine. Using a replacement engine and body, the car was eventually restored to its original configuration during the early 1990s and has since been campaigned in historic events.
